DDI's Performing Arts Coordinator will work to further develop
the artisitic talents of the people that we support. Our ideal
candidate will implement a range of arts-based therapies that will
allow our participants to develop their individual and collective
talents. The position will augment our existing arts-based programs
and help provide another avenue to allow our individuals to
Perform assessments to evaluate and make decisions about
therapeutic options for participants taking into account a range of
factors including personal circumstances and history, as well as
different therapeutic models.
Plan and implement group and individual drama therapy activities as
part of educational or interdisciplinary teams.
Encourage and support participants in creative drama and theatre
work using techniques such as improvisation, storytelling, play,
role play, masks, myth, ritual and script work.
Encourage self-awareness, exploration and reflection and feelings
Initiate spontaneous exploration of personal issues.
Enable individuals to experiment with new ways of thinking and
Use appropriate equipment, materials and therapeutic props.
Engage in a collaborative relationship with a local community
Collaborate with local community theatre organization directors to
present performances resulting from working with the groups. These
performances ideally will be inclusive productions with performers
from DDI and the community theatre.
Take referrals from, and liaise with, other professionals such as
psychologists, social workers, nurses, teachers and other therapist
Monitor and evaluate individual's progress, writing reports on
their progress and the activities that you've undertaken with
Attend and contribute to team and multidisciplinary meetings where
Advise on drama therapy development within a department.
Carry out related administrative tasks.
Attend regular supervision sessions.
Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts/Drama Therapy, Performing Arts or
Evidence of current and sustained engagement in drama, for example
through practical involvement in movement, theatre and
Experience working in community theater venues
Ability to travel to multiple sites
Desire and ability to work with the ID/DD population
Essential Physical Demands
Must be able to modify the area to secure the safety of the adults
i.e. move/push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbs.
Must be able to lift, bend, twist and carry a minimum of 35
Must be able to run after an individual or to a program in need up
to 500 feet.
Must be able to kneel, twist and bend.
