Description

Focus:

  • To efficiently operate and maintain the steam distribution system.
  • To efficiently provide engineering and servicing of all water and steam utilities to control production and downtime cost

Results Expected:

  • Provide steam and heat by proper operation of boilers, includes water supply and automatic fuel feeding and all other related equipment
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning property by preventive maintenance, adjustments, repairs, and cleaning of boilers
  • Provide air pressure by proper control of air compressor equipment
  • Makes recommendations on manual, mechanical, and electrical changes
  • Recommends modifications and improvements of boiler room equipment to improve/maintain the operation
  • Responsible for keeping all areas boilers and related equipment clean
  • Monitor all pollution control equipment to see that it is performing properly, on all boilers
  • Monitor the operations of steam, Grecon (filter system spark detection), compressed air, chilled water, HVAC, filter system levels, material flow and fire prevention equipment
  • Respond to plant wide emergencies by contacting facilities maintenance and/or management
  • Record all repairs of boiler, steam and water flow on boilers
  • Monitor and oversee boiler chemical usage
  • See that boilers are ready for inspection by Factory Mutual
  • Test safety valves weekly on boilers
  • Test boiler water for proper amount of chemical every shift so that the boilers do not get into a scaling condition
  • Check on fuel burner and see that boilers do not smoke. This is related to pollution control.
  • Must keep boilers in good operating condition
  • Provide attention and service to heating/cooling systems, water (potable/non-potable, chilled, waste), humidity, sprinkler, steam, HVAC, compressed air, auto-call, and spark detection systems and related equipment
  • Surveys utility systems in operation & during repairs and makes changes and engineering recommendations to improve operations and lower costs
  • Assists in training Facilities associates by explaining principles and on the job instructions
  • Develops standard practices for most effective work
  • Provides assistance to Project Engineers for updates and changes
  • Coordinates work with other crafts (internal/external) to complete projects

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed minimum steam engineer 1st Class (A)
  • May be assigned a project with complete responsibility
  • Must be very skillful with wood and oil fuel, gas burning and automatic feeds
  • Must have a very proficient knowledge of the filter system grid and sequence for filter system blower/pumps, etc. for material flow
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of Boiler plant
  • Must know sprinkler system and how to control it
  • Must know the steam grid pipe layout and know what valves to open and close for maintenance and emergencies
  • Must have proficient knowledge of all utilities
  • Must know all boiler room safety rules and make sure they are followed
  • Occasionally - lift /carry 10 - 100 pounds
  • Occasionally - Squat, crawl, lifts heavy material
  • Climbing around boilers
