Job Description:
Description Responsible for operating the Heart/Lung machine
while safely maintaining patient cardiac output, tissue
oxygenation, and hemodynamics during cardiopulmonary bypass.
Administers medications and blood components through the
extracorporeal circuit. Responsible for drawing blood samples from
the extracorporeal circuit and making adjustments to maintain
normal blood gas parameters. Maintains adequate anticoagulation
during cardiopulmonary bypass. Initiates ECMO and monitors patients
while on ECMO. Operates the cell saver. Operates the HIPEC machine
and AngioVac circuit. Maintains quality controls for iStat and TEG
as well as interpreting results. Works closely with the other
members of the operating room team to provide the safest and best
possible care to patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Build,
maintain, prime and breakdown perfusion equipment, as needed.
Assembles and monitors ventricular assist device. Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Perfusion program At least 2 years
experience as a perfusionist. Certified by the American Board of
Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) Certification in Basic Life Support
(BLS) New Jersey State Perfusion License Identify and lead quality
improvement projects. Leads ECMO training programs and annual
competency assessments for perfusion, nursing, providers and others
within the hospital. Enters ECMO data in national registry.
Mentor/training for new perfusion team members and students, where
applicable. Inventory management. Participates in perfusion and
other leadership meetings, as needed. Able to work in a fast-paced
environment along with having good communication skills. Able to
stand for long periods of time. Able to lift equipment/devices.
